This quote shows the entire idea behind this civilizations lack of individuality. Thousands of people being exactly alike and born into simple jobs is the entire axis of the class system. And it is that class system that creates social stability.

This is the real reason soma is used. It makes everything all right with out causing sadness or guilt of Christianity. The entire society depends on a kind of blind happiness that only soma can give. Religion has the possibility of failing and causing pain.

This is the reference to Shakespeare and the discovery of this strange way to John. He quotes Shakespeare often and it is THE defining quality of John from the World State. It shows that he still has an appreciation for art and literature. Everyone else is a slave to soma and the society. When John quotes Shakespeare, it reminds us that he is still "human."

This is when Lenina remembers waking up and hearing what was being played to them in there sleep. This makes her think that every one is equal.
it is the recurrence of her hypnopaedia and it shows just how ingrained and conditioned the people of the World State are.
